Overall the F480 Tocco is an exceptionally impressive piece of kit with high quality all round multimedia performance twinned with so nice styling touches. It looks good not only on paper but in your hand as well, another definate winner from Samsung who seem to be going from strength to strength.

The Samsung F480 Tocco is an impressive addition to their range, replacing the Armani, the F480 Tocco is a multimedia powerhouse with a specification to put even the newest iPhone to a stiff test.

With something that does as much & as well as the Tocco it can be difficult to know where to start writing about this slimline touchscreen mobile, however as camera's are a big consideration in communication technology it seems as good a place as any to start.

The camera on the F480 really does put the poor iPhone to shame, equipped with a 5 megapixel digital camera and featuring useful extras such as auto-focus, face detection, image stabilisation, LED flash, a variety of shooting modes + photo effects and wide dynamic range along with a clear & simple user interface, it shows how limited the 2 megapixel fixed focus iPhone really is. Capable of recording video in QVGA (240x320 pixels) resolution at 30 fps (frames per second), the F480 Tocco is quite handy as a potable video recorder too.

For your entertainment, the F480 features a a multi-format music player with support for a wide range of popular and not so popular formats, a music library which you can filter by author, album, and genre. You can also choose to play either the tracks you've recently listened to, or the ones that you've played the most. If that doesn't seem enough, you can create your own custom play lists. The music player can naturally be minimized to play in the background. There's also a FM radio with RDS, music recognition software, a selection of pre-set sound effects & equaliser settings and a very easy to use touch screen interface. With Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP) support for stereo Bluetooth headsets and USB 2 for fast data transfer the Tocco doesn't disappoint.

The Tri-band Tocco not only supports 3G technology but HSDPA (also known as 3.5G) as well which puts it right out there as one of the fastest internet mobiles on the market, way ahead of the old iPhone which was restricted to EDGE (max 236 kbps connection) and the new iPhone which is only 3G capable. The web browser on the Tocco makes full use of the 2.8" display with some nice touches like a smart fit mode which adjusts the web page to the screen size making it easier to read or the ipodesque touchscreen scrolling controls.

The 2.8" touch screen display features haptic technology which offers tangible feedback when you make a selection on the touch screen and an inutative user inteface with widgets allowing you to customize the user interface with applications that move with drag-and-drop ease.

Overall the F480 Tocco is an exceptionally impressive piece of kit with high quality all round multimedia performance twinned with so nice styling touches. It looks good not only on paper but in your hand as well, another definate winner from Samsung who seem to be going from strength to strength.
